I plan to drive an economy rental car from Carcassonne to San Sebastian in Spain on January 31, 2009. Although the distance is 436km and estimated driving time is 4:30 during summer time, I am worry about the weather and snow road conditions may cause driving time much longer. Can someone kindly tell me what kind of weather and road conditions I may be facing during winter season?

Just saw your message and wonder how was your trip? My family and I will be driving the opposite route....San Sebastian to Carcassonne the first week of April. Any advice? Did you take any side roads? Anything to avoid? Any info would be appreciated!!

I took flight from Toulose to Madrid instead. Thanks.

We drove from Andorra to San Sebastian last year and it was beautiful. The one thing that I want to say is that unless you want it to be an all day and possible all night trip, DO NOT go thru the Pyrenees. We made this mistake by not looking at the right map and what should have been a couple hour trip ended up being 11.5hrs. I will never forget that trip because we got to see the most absolute beauty that we could experience but if I would have known, I would have stopped at one of the B%26amp;B%26#39;s deep in the mts. If you would like to see true %26quot;God%26#39;s Country%26quot; and don%26#39;t mind narrow uphill roads, than do it because it will be the best trip of your life. You can pick up the Pyrenees thru Andorra and into France from San Sebastian. But if you don%26#39;t want that type of trip, stick to the freeway.
