Trip to Provence area of France in early August

My husband and I are thinking of taking a trip to the provence region of France in early August. We are not really sure of the best places to visit and what might be the best location. We would like some recommendations on where to stay (one reader said he loved Le Mas de Romarins in Gordes)--we enjoy quaint hotels with a lot of charm. Also, will we need to rent a car? We went to Paris 2 years ago and I know we definitely didn%26#39;t need one then. Is a week a good amount of time to stay? Also, are we making a mistake going in August because of the heat and all of the businesses that are on holiday? Thank you.

A week is a great time to spend in Provence as you will have time to explore many areas. Definitely rent a car to give you the most flexibility, particularly for access to smaller towns and villages.

There are many suggested itineraries out there. Read through some older posts in the Provence forum or use the search function.

Provence is just beautiful. You will need a car to get to all those lovely villages. Maybe fly into Paris and take the TGV to Avignon, then hire a car there. We have stayed at two places as bases for Provence, one in Uzes, the most delightful town just to the west of Provence and then in Isle sur la Sorgue just east of Avignon. Both were lovely places from which to venture out to see other towns and sights around the area.

Some ideas perhaps from our website
