Paris to Caen by train or car

I will be going from Paris to Caeen for two nights.

2 June to 4 June. Would like to visit the D-Day beaches and a few museums.

I%26#39;m also considering going to Mont St. Michel.

My question is, should I hire a car from Paris for the whole trip or whether it would be better catching a train to Caen and picking up a car there?

Cheers.

For three days it%26#39;s perhaps best to rent a car at Bayeux or Caen. If you had longer I%26#39;d suggest renting at Paris to visit places like Giverny, Chateau Gaillard, Rouen, Jumieges, and Honfleur.

But three days will just give you time to visit Bayeux, the d-day beaches and MSM.

If you haven%26#39;t already booked a hotel you will have a job finding one near the coast in that week of the 6th June. For your visit to the beaches make sure you have a guided visit or you%26#39;ll waste you hard earned vacation. Depending on your means you have the choice between a private guide, a minibus tour, or a d-day audio guide.

Don%26#39;t miss the tapestry at Bayeux. It%26#39;s unique.

On the way from Bayeux to MSM you can visit Norrey en Bessin (a giant pottery show room) Hill 192, Villedieu le Poëles (a bell foundry)and a german ossuary at Huisne. Take the coast road just after Avranches to pass through Pontaubault (where patton captured a vital bridge intact) then carry on by the bay with more and more glimpses of the mount as you get closer.

Thanks cpmac.

What areas would be considered by the coast?

Towns actually by the sea, Bayeux and Caen.
