Where to rent? First timer

Please help me decide what location is best?

I%26#39;m renting from homeway.com...either in Marais or St Germain.

We will be in Paris for 10 days to atten the French Open and visit the city.

Are this locations OK?

MERCI

|||

Yes, both locations are great for a first time visitor to the city.

|||

We just spent 5 days in Paris and stayed in Marais and it was the perfect location. close to Metro, markets, and within walking distance of lots of attractions.

Try www.parisbestlodge.com

He has several apartments in the Marais and St Germain. Thierry is very easy to deal with, no upfront security deposits, and great, clean, apartments in great locations.

Have a great vacation!

I just realized how much I like the word %26quot;great%26quot;! :)

Parisbestlodge is used by fodorites a lot. I%26#39;ve been helping a poster on fodors with her apartment search and first trip to Paris for weeks now. She and her husband will be staying in one of Thierry%26#39;s, 6th district, apartments in a few days.

If you go on fodors.com and go to the thread, %26quot;Which Apartment Would You Choose?%26quot; ,there is a lot of talk about apartment rentals. I%26#39;ve have also mapped out an extensive plan, for her, on how to get to different sites, by bus and metro, from her area in the 6th which starts at around the February 17th post date. So, if you end up in the same district, you can print the info for reference. Happy Travels!

Thanks for bringing homeaway.com to my attention. I might have it written down somewhere as I have a long list of rental companies in case I can%26#39;t get what I want at one company.

I just went through their apartment list, for the 6th, and found the apartment that I will try to get next year, 2010, as I already have a place for my upcoming trip in a few weeks.

The apartment that I%26#39;m really interested in with them is #266061 at 54 rue de Seine. I stayed at the Hotel de Seine, right next door, at 52 rue de Seine annually from 1981-1990 and a few steps down the street at the Welcome Hotel, same owner as Hotel de Seine, at 66, rue de Seine, from 1990- around 2000. So, this is my neighborhood. Everything I need is very close by and the laundromat is, on the same street, and a few steps from the apartment building...almost next door to it. And the supermarket and open air market are right on the corner of rue de Seine and rue Buci, less than one minute away. So, hopefully I%26#39;ll have this apartment for the spring of 2010! Thanks again. Happy Travels!

I think there was a type on that last homeaway listing on Rue de Seine - I think it should be 226061.

I%26#39;ve actually just rented thru homeaway too and the place in the 6th that I booked is www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p169405

Claude and Lucile were the 1st to get back to me after the several inquiries I sent out to diff apts, and they don%26#39;t require any security deposit - in fact they don%26#39;t want any deposit at all, we are to pay them when we arrive in Paris. there are many positive reviews and the apt is in a great location (so we%26#39;re told).

good luck, we%26#39;ve never had ANY problems renting thru HomeAway or VRBO.

|||

Thanks for bring that to my attenetion....yes, it was a mistype and should have read 226061.

I%26#39;m glad to hear that they are a good agency to rent from. I%26#39;ve rented from vacationinparis.com which is great as they%26#39;re located here in the States and I%26#39;m able to just send them a personal check to pay for the apartment. Plus, they mail out the keys about two weeks before departure from home, so no need to meet anyone at the apartment to be let in. But, I always keep a list of other agencies just in case I can%26#39;t get the apartment that I want.

The other apartment that I would consider, through homeaway.com, would be the St. Suplice one although I%26#39;m not fond of sloping, loft ceilings. But that%26#39;s another very good location. And for me it%26#39;s about location and (walking/bus/supermarket) convenience when I%26#39;m looking for a place in Paris. Happy Travels!

|||

Devalfa-I just noticed that the apartment that you%26#39;ve selected is the one that I was referring to in St. Suplice area. That would definitely be my second choice. So, are you to just pay them in cash Euros or are you to use a credit card? And how many months, in advance, did you book? For my vacationinparis apartment on the rue St. Andres des Arts, in the 6th, I booked 9 months in advance for the week before Easter. Happy Travels!

what a coincidence! we booked a few weeks ago for our stay in Sept. the owner said wait til we get to Paris %26amp; take out Euros from ATM %26amp; pay him in cash. that way we won%26#39;t have to deal with wire transfer, getting a bad conv rate in buying Euros in US, etc.
