Need suggestions for Provence itinerary

Thurs-Sat: Aix en Provence

Friday- Aix; afternoon Cassis by bus from Aix

Sat- Aix Market

We will be staying in Aix from Thurs-Sat.

Sun- L%26#39;Isle sur la Sorgue Market

Mon- Bedoin and visit wineries

Tues- More Wineries

Wed- Possibly Uzes markert

We are into very much into art, local artisans, and pottery. And, of course, local markets and food.

Where do you recommend to stay for Sat-Wed? We will have a car Sat-Wed. There are 4 of us, and we are looking to stay in a locally owned b%26amp;b or hotel for around 135-140 euros total, including breakfast (if possible). Is this realistic? Just want a clean, hospitable and did I mention clean room/efficiency.

Uzes is a great town to visit for the markets, but just the situation of the centre square with arches and a fountain away from all the traffic is so appealing. If you are really into art and artisans I suggest you visit nearby St Quentin la Poterie which is full of potters ateliers where you can meet them and watch them work. There is also a VERY good restaurant there, takes about 6 tables a night by booking only, just a husband and wife team. We sat in a beautiful garden and were cosseted through a very memorable meal.

As to somewhere to stay, round Avignon is most central to your enterprises. We stayed right in Isle sur la Sorgue but that place is only rented by the week and is quite expensive. However, the local tourism people publish a great website for accommodation. This page is for inexpensive B%26amp;B s.

If you want a wine tour, you might try Avignon Wine Tours. We just used him (Francois) and he and the day trip were wonderful. I haven%26#39;t reviewed it here on TA yet but will do so this week. He has 6 different itineraries to choose from. He picks you up at your hotel or B%26amp;B (we stayed in Avignon). We did tour #2 which included 4 vineyards. He is charming and very informative. He tailors it to your knowledge of wine and gives a running commentary on the area you are driving through. We visited vineyards in the Luberon area. We also went to lunch, which was extra (knew in advance). The place we went to was for locals. The food was great and a good value. We stopped in another village for cafe which he paid for. I highly recommend checking him out.

The L%26#39;Isle-sur-la-sorgue market is great, a little bit of everything. Get there very early. We were there in March, got there at 9, by 10 it was packed and it was off season. If you get there early (earlier than us in tourist season) you may find parking close by. We did. Also, it isn%26#39;t a full day market. You can do the market in the AM and go to Roussillon (a must), Gordes, Joucas, etc. in the PM.

We also did Cassis - beautiful. Eat at one of the outdoor cafes. Take the boat tour to the Calanques. Drive up Les Routes Des Cretes. We only got part of the way due to very high wind (Mistral). The closed the road, but even part way, the view was stunning.
