We are staying in Paris 4th April to 7th April and would some good ideas to keep 15 year old daughter happy! Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Versailles all on plan but would like something different and not expensiove! Also any inexpensive restaurants with French feel!
|||
It%26#39;s not the daughter I%26#39;m concerned with. I%26#39;m worried about you!
|||
wellheeled, you%26#39;ll love going to Paris with your daughter! I took a little friend of mine when she was fifteen (three years ago) and it was one of my favorite trips to Paris. It%26#39;s great to see Paris through the eyes of a teenager. Not to worry about entertaining her. She%26#39;ll have fun just walking down the street. No kidding.
For inexpensive food options, the street food is wonderful; both sweet and savory crepe stands are all over the city. Bakeries have all sorts of savory offerings such as sandwiches and quiches. They make quick, inexpensive lunches. Do try L%26#39;As du Falafel in the Marais (rue des Rosiers) for great falafel. My teen amie loved it. Bakeries are good choices for inexpensive breakfasts too for croissants or other pasteries. Again, as I mentioned in another post today, my teen amie loved Sergeant Recruteur on Ile St. Louis. The food isn%26#39;t particularly memorable, but teenagers seem to love the place.
Another inexpensive option is Chez Clement. I%26#39;m not one for chain restaurants, but this is one of the better ones. Again, there are several around the city.

I will be there in April with my 15 years old daughter and shw ABSOLUTELY want to go to cimetière Père Lachaise to see Jim Morrisson%26#39;s grave. There is also a Virgin Mega store on Champs Elysees she doesn%26#39;t want to miss, a glace (ice cream)at Berthillon and she also do not want to miss Le Louvres and Versailles. Wish this could help you.
Have a wonderful trip.

NYADDICT, I took the same teenager, now 18, to Paris again in December and we spent a very enjoyable hour in the Virgin Megastore. Having been to Paris about 15 times before, I%26#39;d never gone there. It was amazing, if you%26#39;re into music or videos. And what teenager isn%26#39;t?
We also went to Pere Lachaise, again never been before. Jim Morrison%26#39;s grave is SO unremarkable. Also, make sure to get a map of the cemetary. It%26#39;s very big and, the way the crypts are jumbled together, it%26#39;s difficult to find specific graves unless you know where they are. But it was a really interesting place. Happy travels!
|||
Thanks, and I am taking my 18 year old in one week! Can%26#39;t wait. We%26#39;re planning to hit all of the top spots, but first on her list is the Opera House. She is a huge Phantom of the Opera Fan.
We will be sure to get to Virgin records too...
|||
Anne, In Love With Paris must be busy today or she%26#39;d have gone crazy for your entry. Her favorite building in Paris is the Opera House. I have a good friend whose daughter is a Phantom fanatic and their first stop in Paris a couple of years ago was the Opera House. I%26#39;m sure your daughter will be thrilled.

HappyGoin: I was just about to add to this post and I just read your comment. (SMILE!) Here I go:
Le Musee Des Arts Decoratif %26amp; Bijoux--this is next to the Louvre on Rue de Rivoli. Look it up to see what the temporary exhibit is. It seems to have to do with fashion usually (I have seen two fabulous temporary fashion exhibits here--haute coulture and ballet costumes).
Le Musee Galliera: Musee de la Mode et du Costume--this is a fabulous fashion museum in the 16th arrondissement. It is only open a few times per year when they actually have a temporary exhibit so go online and see if they are having one when you will be there. I keep missing it--that is so upsetting because I am dying to see it.
Go to the 30 minute fashion show at Galleries Lafayette on Friday afternoons at 3pm. You must make a reservation on line at the Galleries Lafayette website. It is always packed so if this is appealing, make your reservation as soon as possible.
If you want to see a beautiful Museum, visit the beautiful apartment upstairs of the famous Maxim%26#39;s restaurant. Both the restaurant and the apartment are owned by Pierre Cardin. It is simply beautiful.
Go to Pierre Cardin%26#39;s fashion museum in the northern part of Paris. It is simply wonderful--and large.
There is a beautiful fan museum in Paris, Le Musee De L%26#39;Evanteil in the 10th arrondissement, 2 blvd. de Strasbourg (upstairs on second or third floor). It is open only Monday-Wednesday, from 2-6pm (or is it 8pm?) and has beautiful fans from around the world. This is one of my favorite museums in Paris.
I also suggest that you do a self-tour of the Opera Garnier, or better yet, go see a ballet there. I think it is the most beautiful building in Paris.
You might also enjoy walking through the covered passages like Passage Jouffroy and others. These are gorgeous covered little shopping centers. The architecture is beautiful.
Be sure to walk past the outside of the Pompidou Museum in the Marais District. It is really wild! Go next door to see the Stravinsky fountain. It is colorful and whimsical with lots of moving parts. My 15 year old son and I loved it.
I also suggest having afternoon tea at one of the many beautiful wonderful tea salons in Paris. You could go to the Hotel Meurice or Hotel Athenee%26#39;s restaurant or you could do very simply by having tea at A Priori The in the Passage Jouffroy or the little tea salon on the Rue St. Louis on L%26#39;Ile St. Louis. Or have hot chocolate (called l%26#39;Africain) at Angelina%26#39;s on Rue de Rivoli next to the Tuillerie Gardens.
le mur vegetal--this is a vegetation wall which goes up the front face of The Quai Branly Museum. (You do not have to enter the museum or pay any money in order to see this--you see it from the street.) This museum is very close to the Eiffel Tower.

www.frenchgardening.com/visitez.html…
le mur vegetal is comprised of 15,000 plants and 150 different species.
Le Musee des Arts Forains in Bercy Village in South East Paris. This is a museum of antique fairground arts. It is fun and different from any other museum in Paris--and worth seeing. The tour guide speaks in French but it doesn%26#39;t matter. You get the gist anyway, even if you don%26#39;t speak french--and it is really fun. You must have an advanced reservation for this museum. The tour is in groups set up by Diane. To email her: diane@pavillons-de-bercy.com. Enter this museum in the search function at the top of this forum in order to see how much people love this museum. (Hopefully you will find something. I know that I have read reports on here about how pleased people are with this tour. I also took the tour and loved it.
You might enjoy the Promenade Plantee, which is a garden walkway which runs above the Viaduc des Arts basically from the Bastille to the parc de Vincennes. It is currently the only one of its kind in the world, although there are a few other places which intend to copy it.
I suggest lunch at Le Train Bleu and you can make reservations online at their website. It isn%26#39;t cheap but a teenage girl would just love it--so beautiful. Look at the gorgeous pictures on the site. It is located at the Gare de Lyon train station in south east Paris.

When you go to Isle St Louis for the Berthillon Ice cream, go right inside the real shop and sit at a tiny French table for the full experience.(closed Mon and Tues) Then check out the fromagerie (cheese shop, quite smelly) the chocolate shop, the many gift shops including Pylones for its really colourful and quirky household gadgets and souvenirs.The Sargent Recruiter is here too, food served in generous ways, baskets of crudites to hack into, a terrine to slice a bit off, a turreen of soup etc.
On the tip of the island behind Notre Dame is a tiny memorial to the deported Jews of Paris. You walk inside and it is very moving and something that has stayed with me.
And do visit Sainte Chapelle, it is a jewel of a church, a couple of blocks over from the front of Notre Dame.And the gargoyles of Notre Dame, as well as the church itself.
All these are within a few blocks of each other.
