Suggestions for getting a taxi at Gare du Nord?

For a 10:30 arrival on Saturday at Gare du Nord, I was wondering if it is better to make arrangements ahead of time for a taxi or just flag one down after arrival. The dropoff will be at a hotel in the St. Germain area. I don%26#39;t want to use the metro.

Any suggestions for getting a taxi at Gare du Nord?

Do you mean 10:30 am or pm? the French use a 24 hrs clock so be careful when ordering a cab or anything! 10:30 pm. would be 22:30 in France. Anyway there are lots of trains arriving at Gare du Nord all day long and later than 10:30 pm. so just line up with the people waiting for a cab until it is your turn.

10:30 am.

I had heard that the area around Gare du Nord was not the best. Thanks for the reply

The area is fine, just not as %26#39;charming%26#39; as some areas. There is a taxi rank outside - you follow the signs to it. It is difficult to %26#39;flag down%26#39; at taxi, as they are either waiting at a rank or already taking a passenger somewhere.

I know you said you don%26#39;t want to use the metro, but just so you know, Line 4 connects to G.dNord and St Germain-des-Pres, and more stops in that area. Not nagging, it is your choice!

It%26#39;s not easy to flag a taxi in Paris, as they don%26#39;t cruise looking for custom. They wait at taxi ranks, so you have to look for a rank.

There is a large and well-organised taxi rank at gare du Nord: just follow the signs.

Finding a taxi at PARIS-Gare du NORD will be as simple as disembarking from your arriving train; walking to the end of your arrival platform; turning Right onto the main concourse of the station; and walking straight ahead until you bump-into the regular TAXI rank at the end of the concourse.

In order for you to %26#39;..flag down..%26#39; a taxi, you would have to exit the station and walk a couple/few blocks away and then HOPE (%26#39;prayer%26#39; to whichever of the gods-of-travel you believe, should probably be involved as well) that any vacant taxis (probably on their way to the regular taxi rank at Gare du Nord or nearby Gare de l%26#39;Est) would bother to stop for you.

Follow the pictures of a taxi and they%26#39;ll lead you to the official rank for Taxis Parisien. Do not accept offers from anyone in the station - go to the official taxi rank and the starter will put you into a proper cab. The line goes very quickly.
