Using AT&T Cell Phone within Paris and France

My wife and are traveling to Paris in February. I have an AT%26amp;T cell phone which is now activated to be used for roaming internationally. I know how to call back to the states but does anyone know how to make a call within France and what the country and city codes are that I need to use? Thanks.

Actually, calling back to the US is more complicated than making local calls.

For calls within France (you will no longer be on an AT%26amp;T network), simply dial the 10 digit number you want to contact. These numbers all begin with %26quot;0%26quot;. There are no other country or city codes.

If someone from within France wants to call you while you are there and you are obviously keeping your US number, they will dial 001-(3 digit area code)-(7 digit local exchange).

For example:

001-800-555-5555

You don%26#39;t specifically ask but for dialing French numbers from North America:

011 33 x xx xx xx xx where x=the local number EXCLUDING the leading %26quot;0%26quot;.

To make a call within France from your mobile phone just use the international code +33 then the 9 last digits of the phone number (don%26#39;t dial the 0).

Thanks. A bit confused now due to another poster saying must include the zero.

If I%26#39;m dialing this number within france (33)(1) 44771245 from my AT%26amp;T phone how would I do it?

Thanks.

Regardless of the phone you are using in France (your cell phone or a land line), you will be calling on the France Telecom network. To reach the above number in Paris, dial:

01 44 77 12 45

____________

From the AT%26amp;T website:

%26quot;In most countries, when roaming internationally, dial the local number just as you would from a landline phone.%26quot;

Thanks Sarastro for clarifying. Would I also have to dial the + key prior to dialing that 10 digit number?

I have searched the forum and read past posts, but I remain confused about making calls while in Paris with my ATT cell phone with international roaming. Please clarify the following for me:

1. How do I call to a Paris phone number

2. How do I call the United States

3. What is the emergency phone number (the equivalent of 911)

4. When would I need to dial a + sign

|||

To call Paris you have two options - either dial

+33 1 xx xx xx xx or 00 33 1 xx xx xx xx. This means that any number you save to your phone you will still be able to dial when youre back in the states. The + sign universally replaces the 00 you call from Europe to make an international call. To get the +, hold down the %26quot;0%26quot; key. For calling to (and inside France) 33 is the country code.

To call the USA dial 00 1 xxx xxxx that is 001 for the internatinal line, and 1 for North America.

For emergencies, call 112

One more cell phone question. While I am in Paris, my teenage son will be in Paris and Madrid with a school trip. We both have iphones with American phone numbers. If I want to call him while we are both in Paris, would it be as if am calling to the United States (ie dial +1 area code phone number)?
