We will be in Lille for three days at the end of March, staying in the old centre. Is it possible to hire a car for a day to visit Ypres and some of the First World War sites. Are there any organised tours? Or public transport available?
Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks

It would be almost as cheap to hire a car for the three days as it would for 1 day - one day about £100 and three days about £125.
There are quite a few tours either from Lille or Ypres.
The Lille Tourist Office has a Saturday tour for £35 but you don%26#39;t stop in Ypres.
Salient Tours (www.salienttours.com) run one from Ypres for either £28 or £35.
Hello Tommy (www.hellotommy.co.uk) have a full day tour.
And there are other tour operators you can find on the web.
Trains do run to Ypres but you have at least one change of train each way.
The Lille Tourist office (www.lilletourism.com) should be able to tell you about Bus services, Car hire or anything else you want to know and you can contact them direct through their website.

The Last Post Ceremony takes place at the Menin Gate in Ypres every evening of the year at 2000hrs (8pm).
It is a truly moving experience and if you have the opportunity to attend then do so.
