tgv first class

Does anyone know what advantages there are when travelling first class on TGV?

You get a seat with a bit more room - that%26#39;s all. I guess it might be better for a tall person, or possibly for a long journey. I used to travel regularly on the TGV from Tours to Paris (1 hour) and always went second class.

I travel in first class only when the 2nd class is full.

The only advantage I see is that you can plug your computer in 1st class.

Our travel agent suggests 1st class will make luggage handling much easier. We travel on a Saturday in May. Comments please?

There are 3 public holidays in May and these spread into the weekends so trains can be pretty busy at this period.

If it%26#39;s a busy period then you may find yourself in a full carriage which could mean luggage racks full and planty of noisy (though normally polite) french teens about. 1st class is generally quieter and less crowded if this will be an issue for you. Maybe it depends on the length of your journey. If there are 2 of you in 1st class, you can book 2 single seats facing each other which is a bit more private.

In my opinion the differences are small, but could be enough to justify upgrading.

I%26#39;ve traveled in both - which your travel agent obviously hasn%26#39;t done - the differences just aren%26#39;t worth the money - of course, your travel agent makes more when you travel first.

TravelGolfer:

If you are booking French trains through a US travel agent, the probability is that you will be asked to pay considerably more than the real ticket price. You might like to check prices on www.voyages-sncf.com . Stay with French, otherwise you get kicked to a higher-priced site.
