My wife and I will be making our first trip to France in mid-May. We will be flying in and out of Paris, total trip is 2 weeks. We would like to spend about 7 days in Paris, and a good chunk of time in the French Riviera, but otherwise do not have any specific plans. Any recommendations? We definitely want to check out several different spots, but not be on trains/buses/planes all the time. Thanks!

Here%26#39;s 1 suggestion, sure there will be plenty of others.
Fly in to Paris and then directly on to Nice and use this as a base to see that part of the coast, then after 3 or 4 days move to St Tropez area for a couple of nights. Then fly back to Paris for the final week.
It%26#39;s an advantage to be in Paris the final week as the hassle of reaching the airport for departure day is much less with no connections to worry about.

I think that is a very good idea from jon - by going on to Nice the same day as arrival in France you will save one day of travel, also. After the coast, I suggest that you take a train to, say, Grenoble or Chambery and rent a car to see the Alps; or take the train to Brive-la-Gaillarde, rent a car, and see the Dordogne Valley; and then go by train into Paris.

Definitely head direct for Nice -its the best base for this area. Nice has lots of offer itself and also easy access to everywhere else on the coast and inland by public transport [cheap and easy to use]
After Nice maybe go to Aix en provence or Avignon for a couple of days before heading to paris
