I booked a flight to Rodez and I%26#39;m very undecided whether to stay there for the duration of our stay or book a hotel for two days in Estaing and the last two in Rodez. Can anyone tell me what are public transport like if we are not hiring a car? Or how much is taxi from the airport to Estaing? Thanks to anyone who can help. Gabry

See you haven%26#39;t had a response, I%26#39;ll help as far as I can.
To fill 4 full days in the town limits of Rodez you need to be on a chill out, laid back, snails pace escape. The town has an interesting historic heart, with modern development at the other side of the bridge over a riven valley. But to fill all your time actively would be pushing it. Getting out into the attractive countryside would be good, or a second centre as you suggest. I haven%26#39;t been to Estaing but it is about 40km there, plus return, probably not a cheap taxi ride for a couple of days.

Thank you so much for your advice, I had the feeling myself. I%26#39;ll probably stay in Rodez as a base and hire a car to explore the area. Even though we are very laid back, we enjoy walking, having some lovely meals and a few drinks at night and talk to the locals. Hopefully even just Rodez should offer that.
Thanks again.

Hi, how did your trip to Rodez go - I would appreciate any hints - like is it far from the airport - suitable for kids - any hotels stand out as good - Ryanair are good value for flights, but I know nothing about the place !
I%26#39;d be grateful for any info.

Hi Diane,
Sorry I can%26#39;t help you this time, I eventually cancelled my holiday in Rodez and had decided to go to Lanzarote instead. I was put off by the weather forecast, which at the time was predicting rain, and since we were only having a 4 days break opted for a sunny holiday. I%26#39;m still fascinated by that area of France and hopefully I will eventually visit it. It shoull be great for colture, food and scenery. Best of luck with it.

Would definitely encourage you to go to Rodez, but only if you like very laid-back provincial French towns with quaint medieaval buildings, good restaurants and small, welcoming hotels. I use the Ibis, which is cheap, clean, comfortable and central.
