Hi,
I%26#39;m planning a trip with my parents (in their 60%26#39;s-70%26#39;s) to go to Paris for 3 days (then we%26#39;ll be taking Eurostar to London afterwards). I%26#39;ve been to Paris twice and stayed in the 6th arrondissment both times. However, this time around my parents have got good discounts at Holiday Inn. We have 2 choices between Holiday Inn Gare de L%26#39;est (cheaper rates) and Holiday Inn Repubique. I%26#39;m not familiar with either location. Which of the two would be 1)close to metro (as we%26#39;ll be taking it alot to tourist attractions), restaurants, shop 2) convenient located, 3) in a safe neighborhood ?

HI Republique is in an excellent location in terms of the metro. Multiple lines intersect at that location.
I really didn%26#39;t like the Republique HI. For me, I thought is was impersonal, too big, expensive, and noisy. It does have American-sized rooms and is very clean. It is a typical business hotel.

Both areas are safe and both have good transport links. However, the metro will involve a lot of stairs and may not be ideal for your parents.
Gare de l%26#39;est has plenty of excellent bus routes and you will never nave to go far to find restaurants - they are everywhere.
Both hotels are on busy main roads so not a lot to choose as regards noise.
As regards shops - if you mean high end shopping you will need to travel from either location to Champs d%26#39;Elysee or Blvd Haussmann. Bus 32 from Gare de l%26#39;Est serves both.
The two hotel locations you mention are only about a mile apart.

Both are great for métro connections, neither have great restaurant options, neither would be my first choice for shopping, but both areas are as safe as anywhere in Paris proper.
I can only address which area I%26#39;d prefer to stay of the two and that would be République.
