Bus from airport to town

I%26#39;m staying at Best Western New York on Ave Marechal Foch and would like some (detailed!) advice on catching the bus to there please. Which number bus, which stop to get off at, which direction to head in... Anything at all! I will have my 8 year old daughter with me and want to avoid unnecessary headaches.

I%26#39;d also appreciate any tips about Nice for children!

Hi, sorry it%26#39;s not detailed but the best advice i can give you is to head for gare routiere (spelling) by bus from the airport(you shouldn%26#39;t get lost but its a bit of a squeeze sometimes but only few euro), and walk a little back on yourself until the black and white square tiled floored square on your left, this is later on in the journey before the station and as the bus turns left off the promenade anglais, look out for it,very near place de massena, a tram should run through it towards the mountains but unsure it%26#39;ll get you there, walk if not ( it may be a long one though, esp with a child). it should be straight ahead and one of the streets on the right.

check out google maps and drag the tiny gold chap in the left corner down on your hotel - it may help you more than me, and also in relation to the beach / gare routiere / airport.

In terms of the child, i dont really know much to do (but dont worry), there%26#39;s a hell of a beach (pebble though), and a short ride to antibes (1 euro at last count) can get you to marine land - supposedly there%26#39;s an aqua park there too.

TAXIS ARE A RIP OFF!!! although they might know where they are going - info on here is cheap, reliable, and above all it%26#39;s part of the holiday to experience it!!!(probably 35-50 euro tp your place for taxi - it was 25 euro for me to miami beach in 2007)

ps

ive been to nice and the whereabouts a few times and if you get stuck, many people speak english (esp in shops, cafes, bars..) don%26#39;t be afraid to ask they%26#39;ll be the most reliable source for your trip!

bon chance et bon voyage

when are you going and what time are you arriving?

The bus 99 that stops at the station is closest to your hotel

Bus 98 goes to the bus station

from the train station or bus station walk to the tram line and use the same ticket you got on the bus [a 4 euro day ticket] validate it and get off at jean medecin= one stop from closest tram stop to train station [gare thiers] or three stops from closest tram stop to bus station [opera/veille ville]

Hi selkieNice, pleased you can add to my comments - can you clarify for the poster if my comment were incorrect, if so then sorry ferfer!! Or, are you merely adding to my remarks!

i need to know for my self as im in nice and antibes in august 09

cheers

Hi Hewie101 - The 99 bus is much quicker than the 98 and goes to a different part of the centre

The bus 99 stop [last stop] at the main train station is closer to the New york Hotel. Then its one tram stop or a fairly short walk.

probably just walking is easier but I know i have been known to take the tram one stop when fatigued so i gave the info.

After 9pm-ish the 99 bus stops and folk can request a stop at the train station but the bus goes to the bus station first.

Hewie101= where are you staying in Nice?

I%26#39;m happy to get the bus from Nice airport to antibes but not from Nice centre to antibes -it juts adds another half hour on to a potentially long journey.Can%26#39;t beat the price though.

I always go to Antibes by train unless its an unavoidable appointment

ferfer = what does your daughter like to do/see?

Many thanks for the helpful advice about the bus.

Top of my daughter%26#39;s wish list is to hire a bike, so if you have any more information about that - including whether that is safe for an eight year old - then please let me know. I wasn%26#39;t thinking road cycling (heaven forbid) more e.g Promenade des Anglais, or anywwhere where there are special cycle paths?

A trip on the bus she would probably enjoy too - what would you recommend out of Monte Carlo, Monaco, Vence, or any other suggestions.

Thanks again.

The velib bike hire system is supposed to be starting up in July but the bikes will be too big for an 8 yr old.

How many days do you have?

An 8 year old would like Parc pheonix = loads of bird and animals , fish, reptiles , creepy crawlies and a botanic gardens to see-plus a small bamboo maze and a big children%26#39;s play area

2 euros per adult and kids are free- bus 23 9 or 10 to bus stop arenas.

I really like vence and go there a lot but its probably not somewhere that will grab an 8 year old - I%26#39;d choose Eze village over vence [or st paul for that matter] because its more immediately old and quaint and picturesque.

Antibes is also good -a castle , old town . huge yachts and a sandy beach- go by train though

Or a trip to cannes then a boat trip to st margeurite and see the prison where the man in the iron mask was held

she would probably enjoy the wolf parc at le boreon -get the bus to st martin vesubie and arrange a taxi to take you to le boreon as its a bit far to walk [there is a shuttle bus in summer]

what about hiring roller blades on the Quai des Etats Unis and skating along the promenade?

Fabulous, many thanks everyone for your suggestions!
