Hi anyone,
My partner and I (we%26#39;re both in our 60%26#39;s but active)
are %26#39;doing%26#39; Europe from early May till we run out of money! Can anyone advise us on a good route (by road) from Dieppe to the Pyrenees, taking in as many historical sites and beautiful towns as possible.
We then dip into Portugal, through Spain into Southern France then Italy. So we also need the same advice from Turin back through France to Dieppe.
Any advice on Portugal Spain and Italy as well, if you%26#39;ve done them.
We expect to have a mixture of accomodation, camping, hostels and the occasional b%26amp;b. So if you know any.......

This takes me back - my husband I (we%26#39;re both in our 60s and active) have %26#39;done%26#39; Europe by road on a similar route. In the early days we would have writen to the AA asking their advice and they would have sent us a suggested route. Some years later we used to buy maps and guides and spend the winter planning our European adventure. Now we search the internet for relevant information and with that in mind, here are some useful websites:

That sounds like a great trip. You may already know them, but I can add a couple of general resources to Joannaspencer%26#39;s list (Paradors! I want a holiday touring paradors!)
The French Tourist Board website has masses of links to different parts of the country and they will send out brochures. You can also register for e-mails each month with competitions to win a holiday in France ...

As well as the Michelin travel website, their road atlas is useful for seeing places in relation to each other. Their Green Guide to France is very good and may give you ideas for particular routes. It is excellent on historical sites.

Many thanks Joanna and Diz. I will look into the sites you both have given. It seemed a long time till departure but it%26#39;s frighteningly close now - a mere 10 weeks or so and a lot to organise.
Thanks once again!

We travelled in North Spain and North Portugal last year.
In Portugal we stayed in Viana do Castelo for a week and travelled out each day to many beautiful spots. We found Castelo a good base when travelling with your own wheels, you could park up in the evening and find many places for a meal or drink by foot.
