I%26#39;d like some advice on areas to stay, or even specific hotels. We%26#39;d like a central location close to restaurants and shops, and feeling safe is a priority for us.
Merci!

Hiya
My mum and I stayed at Hotel le Clos Medici in St Germain (http://www.closmedicis.com) It was lovely, a very short walk from the Luxembourg gardens and very close to shops and restaurants. Also close to RER from CDG. It was reasonably priced, very nice inside and the staff were lovely.

Hi, fellow-Pgh-er!
The St Germain-des-Pres area would be great for you and your daughter, and specifically the rue Jacob, where there are lots of nice hotels. To name a few: Hotel des Marronniers, the Danube, Millesime, d%26#39;Angleterre. I (alone and also with my daughter, who was same age as yours, years ago) have stayed at the Marronniers several times, most recently in 2007. The rue Jacob is a very safe street with lots of shops, and it%26#39;s very near lots of bustling activity even though it is a quiet street.
I will be in Paris in April with my daughter and granddaughter (age 6); we%26#39;re staying in an apartment in the same general vicinity.
Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks so much, that%26#39;s exactly the info I needed!

I would recommend Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche on rue St Jacques (ask for a triple room, lots more space and bigger bathroom!) It%26#39;s in the Latin Quarter rather than St Germain, near Notre Dame and the St Michel RER station. I thought it was a great location, and enjoyed the hotel very much.

Hotel de Fleurie. www.hoteldefleurieparis.com Small, charming hotel off Boul. St. Germain. Great location for walking everywhere !

We are staying at the Millesime Hotel mentioned above in three weeks. The location on the rue Jacob is great but be sure to look at the tete-a-tete package which is included with at least a three day stay. Things like a pick-up at the airport, tickets for a Seine river cruise, breakfast, and a few more things.

Go to www.hotels-in-paris.com and click on the the 6th arrondissment, or wherever you want stay. They will have specials for internet bookings probably, depending on when you are going. Most like the 5th or 6th eme, we also like the 7th, closer to the Eiffel Tower and Invalides. but we are retired and conk out pretty early. Any hotel in central Paris is withing walking distance to any number of great eateries, night spots, and shopping. You might look up second hand shops in Paris, like we do, to get name brands at fantastic savings. NOst of the youger set are around the 5th where the Sorbonne is located, the Latin Quarter.
You will be very safe in all of central Paris. Not to worry. My best advice, let your daughter, well, fend for herself, if you wish to retire early....

I often travel to and around Paris without my husband and have never felt or been unsafe at any time in any location at any hour. The only caveat is do not go to the Bois de Boulogne after dark - it%26#39;s perfectly safe during the day but after dark is the centre of operations for a lot of bad folks.
Almost any hotel in the single digit arrondissements will be close to a Metro station, restaurants and shops. As has been said - don%26#39;t feel you have to accompany your daughter every minute of the day and night. If she%26#39;s safe in Pittsburgh she%26#39;ll certainly be fine in Paris.

Most hotels will list the size of their rooms on the internet. Try and get one that is 25 or 26 sm. 19-22 sm is just too darn small for 2 people.
