Budget? star-rating?

Hi again,

We would likea 3/4 star hotel, perhaps on Rue des Anglais or in the vieux nice.

To be near the beach, nice restaurants, and bus stops would be good, I know thats EVERYTHING but also near the clothes shops, that would be wonderful.

Any recommendations or advice, much obliged.

Merci beaucoup, mom 89.

Central Nice is not large - everything you describe is within around ten minutes walk. Its not usual to stay in the old town itself as there is a lot of choice close by. Being too close top the main railway station is not of itself a good idea.

Of %26quot;modern%26quot; reliable international standard , popular choice is the Mercure Promenade des Anglais on the front itself, and it has another in the Mercure family at the Marche aux Fleurs close to the old town and Cours Saleya. if perhaps lacking %26quot;charm%26quot;

Hotel Windsor www.hotelwindsornice.com

11, rue Dalpozzo is also well regarded

Consider Le Vendome at 26 rue Pastorelli for a little more French charm

Hi Mom 89

Try these pages to thumb through info about areas of Nice, you can click between areas:

rivierapebbles.com/location_vieux_nice.php

I stumbled across them and they helped me on choosing a new area (i come to Nice a lot and wanted a bit further out next trip) - even if you%26#39;re not looking for an apartment.

The Suisse hotel or the Beau Rivage sound like good bets to you for a hotel. Both good, both near Old Town.

You might consider the Hotel Le Royal in the Promenade des Anglais. Beautiful buiding, wonderful position. It belongs to a French holiday firm, Vacances Bleu, and is comfortable, not expensive but definitely not luxurious. It mainly caters for elderly French couples, so you%26#39;ll feel really young! Best to get a room with sea view, as high up as poss. When we stayed there last September there were a number of Irish guests (they were the ones who looked happy and cheerful). We were particularly impressed by the senior Irish gentleman who we bumped into one night outside the lift and who insisted on giving us a carafe of red wine. Never saw him again so if he%26#39;s reading this - many thanks, it was excellent.

I%26#39;ll second the recommendation for the Mercure Promenade des Anglais. Rooms are large and comfortable, with modern baths; go for one with a sea view. There%26#39;s little, if any, road noise, a real plus. The hotel offers senior rates, but you have to inquire when you book.

The hotel is a short 2 blocks from the rue Masséna, which from the rue Halévy is about 3 blocks from the Place Masséna and the tram stops. Vieux Nice is a 10-minute walk.

You can view a large range of apartments with seaview on the Promenade des Anglais on riviera-express.net/riviera-express-rental-n…

Thank you all for your time and good information, very much obliged to you all.

Please Villa des Cygnes.

Really adorable little hotel. The owners are very dedicated and speak very good English.

A must.
