first time visitor with several questions. advice please.

hi , my wife %26amp; i have booked a villa in the countryside outside limoux this summer. i have never been to france before and my wife has only been to brittany when she was young so neither of us know what to expect. i have loads of questions and would really appreciate any answers.

1.what weather can we expect mid june . i realise only a rough guide can be given.

2.places to go %26amp; trips to do in this area.

3.good restaurants in the area. we don%26#39;t like really poncy restaurants, the more country rustic ones are the ones we enjoy. usually where the locals go.

4.what is the local food like?

5. this may sound silly but please humour me. is the price of wine the same in the local shops as it is in the calais wine and beer warehouses.

6.what is the rough cost of living.

7.what are the local wines like %26amp; which ones would you reccomend

thanks in advance for any answers.

really looking forward to this holiday.

1. The weather is usually very nice in June. Could get hot.

2.I suggest you buy the Michelin Green guide. You will not be very far from the Cathar Castles, Carcassonne, Lagrasse, Esperaza and the Mediterranean sea.

3. Restaurant Pierre-Lys, near Quillan, is excellent

4. The local specialty is cassoulet (bean and pork meat baked in oven).

5. No idea

6. This really depends on your life style! Roughly speaking, cheaper than Paris and more expensive than Spain.......... :-)

7. The local wine is Blanquette de Limoux (white, and fizzy).

Local red and white wines : Corbieres, Saint Chinian, Tuchan, etc........

I can fill in the gap !

Supermarket wine is about the same price as in Calais, but the choice may be different.

Many locals buy from the local producers and caves co-operatives at around Euro 1 per litre by having their own jerry cans refilled from the %26quot;petrol%26quot; pumps. Look out for the pumps or a sign saying VRAC.

As you haven%26#39;t been to the region before I suggest you brush up the French you forgot at school. I go there every year and find that not much English is spoken or, if it is, they don%26#39;t let on.

I also noticed that a lot of the street signs are appearing in the Catalan language, which tested my map-reading skills.

Don%26#39;t be put off, as it is a very nice part of the world to visit.

%26quot;I also noticed that a lot of the street signs are appearing in the Catalan language, which tested my map-reading skills%26quot;.

This would not be the case in Limoux where people do not speak Catalan.

You will see street signs written in both Catalan and French in French Catalonia, i.e. roughly the Département of Pyrenees Orientales (Perpignan and area).

suggestion: Google the tourist offices in the areas where you are going. Ask them to send you brochures with sites to visit, restaurants, maps etc.. Start with http://limouxin.free.fr/

1.The weather should be good - warm to hot

2. Try along the Canal Midi - Roubia and Paraza then to Olonzac and Homps.

3. We have used La Fourchette Folle in Roubia and Cafe du Port in Paraza, you%26#39;ll find good food in local surroundings.

4. Can be international but try the local food from small shops if you are self catering.

5. Wine is cheapish if bought from local caves. We used Chateau Puy in Roubia as our supply.

6. Cost of living is higher than UK but except for the wine!!

7. Try Chateau Puy in Roubia - if you say Elizabeth %26amp; Ken sent you, you may get a slight reduction!!

Enjoy

Ken
