Gites in La Rochelle

We are planning a trip to La Rochelle very soon - End of Feb. 2009. The three of us would like a gite in or around La Rochelle. We have a car.

any suggestions on this or would a hotel be best?

If its the town and its attractions youre after you are better off in a hotel with parking eg Comfort St Nicholas.(parking in town can be a nightmare)

If you want to explore the area, say the Ile de Re, or the Marais Poitivin,for example, then a gite would be cheaper, and give you more freedom.

Have you tried the Gites de France website? I think it all depends on how much of your holiday is to be spent in the town. If you need any further help let me know!
