In an email to me about the apt I%26#39;m renting in Paris - the owner says she has a stovetop, an oven and a hob.
What is a hob? Is he cute? tee hee
the hob is the rings area. i dont no what a stove top is but i%26#39;d imagine it to be the same thing!
Ok thanks! She probably was wondering what I meant by stovetop huh? :)
European term for the stove top cooking surface. If my memory is working, the electric ones are more often than not a solid cast iron plate.
In UK slang..a %26#39;..hob..%26#39; (sometimes a %26#39;..cooker..%26#39;) is usually a cooktop/range.
I wouldn%26#39;t call it %26#39;slang%26#39; it%26#39;s the correct word!
thanks all!
It is just the cooking rings, sometimes only two rings, set into the surface of the counter. They might be the older style solid metal or a more modern glass or even induction rings.
Check photos of the kitchens in a few apartments, for exemple on Paris-attitude.com. and Parisstay.com etc. (This is NOT a plug for these sites at all, but they do have good photos).
Georgeco, cast iron plates still exist, but they%26#39;re very few and very far between.
You might have a gas hob, or an electric one as described above -- the smooth surface ones are the most common.

with some luck a photo of a hob will show up (wish we could have a preview) apologies if that doesn%26#39;t work.http://www.paristay.com/paris-stay-apartment-photo.php?id=763%26amp;image=image_appart/big_copy_-763-1143823730.jpg
