apartment rental in Nice

To all you out there who have rented a vacation apartment in NICE, how did you find the apartments? Internet? freinds?

If on Internet, how can you be sure the dealis safe?

Thanks for your help

Well, I can definitely recommend www.rivierapebbles.com. I think Matt %26amp; Gayle have worked tremendously hard to set up their business and their apartments all look fab. We used them a few times in their early days and they seem to have gone from strength to strength. I%26#39;d be very surprised if you had any problems with this company.

Apartment rental is always tricky and we have had some total nightmares (worldwide) that promise so much and deliver so little - and it can really screw up a holiday.

We have used both nice pebbles and rivierarentals(go-nice.com) in 2008 both with no problems, we have booked thru go-nice for 2 trips in 2009.

You are right to be cautious, apart from the chance of unsafe deal there is also the chance of the appt not really being as described - e.g. %26quot;only 10 metres from the promenade%26quot; can also mean 1 mile from old town %26amp; tourist centre or %26quot;great view from balcony%26quot; can mean a 2 sq mtr balcony with standing room only. A common phrase i%26#39;ve seen on the net is %26quot;within 5 mins of beach%26quot; when the location address is checked they mean either by car/bus or if you are an olympic sprinter.

Always check the location of the appt on google map, if the address of the appt is not given then why not?

I generally dislike appartments where owner is demanding a large security deposit which is to be returned some time after return home, look for reviews on T.A. and fodors, look for cleaning fees to be paid locally - usually means appt will be clean on arrival.

We rented our apt. for our June stay through VRBO, with whom we%26#39;ve had great luck in the past. I did look at apts. through both of the websites mentioned above and found them to be very nice, reasonably priced, etc. But for us, Nice is the only place in our 28 night trip to France where we have a chance to be right on water, and the apts looking at/situated on water through the above websites were all booked for our dates. So we went to plan B, VRBO, found a great place (we think!), emailed several times with the owner, negotiated a better price, and I even asked here on TA if anyone else had stayed there, and someone sent me their personal pix from different angles than on the owner%26#39;s website, which gave us an even better overall feel. Also important to us, the apt. comes with a garage space, and we will have a car (which we plan to park and take the bus for many of our day trips)

The owner lives in the same complex, so I am not dealing with someone in, say, a different country.

I asked a lot of questions and didn%26#39;t book til I felt completely comfortable, which is the way we usually do it. In the end, you can only go with your instincts. Usually it works out great, and the rare time it doesn%26#39;t, well, we chalk it up to lessons learned!

Thank you all for your responses!!!

I will keep asking questions and investigating, and I will try the pebbles website too.

Hi Alii,

holidaylettings.co.uk has apartments in Nice. I%26#39;ve booked through them before and phoned them up to ask for more information on the advertiser before I confirmed a booking.

If you do book on the internet don%26#39;t just rely on email - speak to them properly, I find you can judge someone better by talking to them. Also, ask on here if anyone has any feedback/search the forums for previous posts etc.
