Paris Transportation Strike Update

Anyone have any recent news updates. Is it still set of a one day on 19 March? Paris only? Trying to plan alternatives for 19 March early departure. I realize strikes are hard to forecast until they happen; just looking for information; could not find it on google.

Sorry, it still looks like 19 March will be a general strike.

According to this site (in French), the unions are also trying to convince Air France employees to join in the strike.

At this moment, there is NO indication that the air traffic controllers will join in the strike (like about 15% of them did on 29 January).

We land March 19at 8:50 am on Air France. Hopefully we will be able to get to Paris without any problems.

Wea re so looking forward to this trip.

I know it is impossible to predict with any certainty. However, does it appear that this strike is planned as pretty much a 1 day event and transportation will be back to normal on the next day?

|||

My only concern is Air France going on strike too. We have a car service taking us to our apartment.

|||

Does anyone have any first hand information that is current for us all here????

I have made some contingency Plans:

1)reserved a car rental on the 18th to drive to the airport: of course that means I have to find a place to park it in Paris and have to add an hour to get lost. HAH!

2) Reserved a hotel room at the airport. This is another 100euro because I got a discount on my stay at a single hotel in Paris; 100Euro discount for 8 nights. AND it could cut my last night in Paris short.

3) Looking for other clever ideas!

The 29 January strike did affect travel,but it didn%26#39;t even remotely shut the city down.

Friends had worse interruptions on 28 January, when an RER rail broke near Auber -- THAT threw the city into contortions.

The actual strike day was a bother, but everyone got where they needed to get -- some folks took the day off to avoid the problems -- and some of those who chose to try to get to work found they actually got to work earlier than usual.

In my little town, it had absolutely no effect on anything.

I fly into Paris from Dublin with AerLingus at about lunch time on the 19th. I am relaying on public transport completely.

I have looked at changing my dates with Aer Lingus a day forward, so arriving on the 18th instead but it was costing £28.00 per person each way, totaling £112.00. Not worth it I thought when the original flights cost only £60.00. Oh and by the way, Aer Lingus know nothing about the strike.... or so they say.

As people have said there will be minimal services running, I guess it%26#39;s just a matter of hanging around the airport with a good book. I feel very fortunate however to know about this strike. Can you imagine landing into Paris and not know a thing about it.

My issue is coming up with contingency plans to GET to the airport for an 8am departure and incure costs on going back to the US. I would settle for hanging at the airport. HA!

Taxis are not usually part of a general strike and for an 8am, US bound flight, you should have no problems.

For the Aer Lingus folks, public transport may be a bother, but a taxi into the city is less than 50 euros, less than 20 euros more than the RER for your crowd.

Strikes ARE predictable in France. This one is pre-announced and it is a ONE day strike. Happy travels.

Do you think Air France will have any problems with a flight coming from Houston and landing on the 19th. I have already hired a car service to take us to our apartment. I was just not sure if Air France would be involved in the strike also.
