Has anyone used www.homaway.com to find an apartment rental

Hello, going to nice for 5 days.

Found a beautifulapartment through the homeaway website, owner%26#39;s name in concepta.

I am a bit afraid to send her 50% deposit to her bank account.

Does anyone have any advice how to make sure I am not being conned????

Thank You

This website simply seems to give you lists of other websites. Where did you find the apartment?

I think this is the outfit we used when we found an apartment for a month in West Palm Beach, Fl, USA in 2007 - 2008. If it is the same sight, I found that it really only listed all the sites with pictures, prices, amenities, etc. Once I selected places I was interested in, I filled out the form, they sent it to the owners and the owners contacted me. I think Home Way or Vacation Rentals by Owner had a list of items somewhere on their web site to note to watch out for fraud. What I did was select ONLY those sites that took credit cards. I did have to also give a 50% deposit which I didn%26#39;t like but for us, it really worked out well. We also signed a contract with the owner. If you use a cc and there is fraud, I think you are only reliable for $50.

BUT I am not sure if this is the same group I used. Just be careful. For a different take, we just used a place in Avignon, France for a week. The owner only required our credit card number to hold the place. No contract and she didn%26#39;t charge the cc. We had to bring euros or travelers checks in Euros. It was a big change from working with the US.
