Sites in the Rouen area? Driving time?

We are considering staying at La Residence Normande near Rouen. Our interests are the Normandy Coast, specifically the WWII museum and cemetery, and the Brittany Coast - Mont St. Michel. We will have a car. How close are these sites? Any additional must-sees? Thanks

Those sights are a fair way from Rouen; you might consider staying nearer to the coast, perhaps in Bayeux. That would put you considerably closer to the WWII area and Mont St-Michel. You could also visit the charming seaport of Honfleur and the city of Caen. I%26#39;d suggest you pick up a copy of the Michelin Green Guide to Normandy and have a look at suggested itineraries. If you will be driving from Paris there%26#39;s quite a lot to see on the way.

Why do you want to stay in Rouen? Is it just the place you%26#39;ve found? Rouen is a couple of hours from the US cemetery and a good two and a half hours or more to MSM. Our area, just west of Bayeux (and south of Saint Lo) is a good base to visit all the sites you are interested in as it is equidistant to all of them.

I agree - waste of time staying somewhere so far from the places you%26#39;re interested in. Around St Lô would be better (but not in St Lô itself), for example tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g660467-d595935-…

The consensus is right. Rouen is too far away from the places you want to see. normally I%26#39;d say Bayeux is the best base but you want to see the Brittany coast (north or west?)

The best bet is probably to stay at Bayeux to see the sites in that area then into Brittany for that part.

Around Bayeux there%26#39;s Caen -2 abbeys and a castle, Manoir d%26#39;Argouges, Norrey en Bessin - pottery showrooms galore, prehistorique tumulus at Colombiers, sumps at Escurres near Port en bessin and of course the beaches (make sure you have a guide or you%26#39;ll waste your time. There are minibus tours, private guides or a d-day audio guide.)

On your way to MSM there%26#39;s Craignes - massacre site, Hill 192, St Lo, Villedieu les poëles - bell foundry, Huisne german ossuary.

From MSM, the coast to Cancale, St Malo etc..
